Kasaona FA bounces back victorious
… DTS U/19 beat SKW 2-0
Kasaona Football Academy’s U/17 put in a stellar performance, coming back from an early 2-0 deficit to Baller Boys to win the game 4-3 and collect three points.
Baller Boys, who had looked in control of the match in the first half by putting two goals past Kasaona FA, loosened their grip in the second half. Kasaona FA switched gears, catching their opponents off guard, and easily came back into the game.
Winning Coach Mamie Kasaona felt it was a good, entertaining game, and good goals were scored on the day.
One can see they executed nice goals there. But all in all, I think it all boiled down to the tactical approach to the game. Because you could see that we had a good one, so we only had to work on the second ball,”
– she said.
Kasaona was pleased with the boys’ performance despite some errors by their goalkeeper, who lost focus for a time during the game.
Going forward, I think it’s just a few errors from the goalkeeper that you can equally say are not supposed to happen. It’s all about teaching our boys about the new trends in football, what’s happening when the centre ball starts like that, what you’re not supposed to do and what not. I mean, we give an easy goal like that. It’s not supposed to be.
But, yeah, back to the drawing board. I think we had a similar encounter in the first round, and we won 3-2. And I think we knew how their wings were flying and how they struck. But, I mean, I have a different approach where we make sure, we close the supply, and that’s what we did,
– she ended.
While Andreas Sheya, coach of Baller Boys, was not proud of the results, they were leading 2-0 in the first half.
At least I would say I’m proud of the results in terms of the first-half performance. But in terms of stamina, full focus, and maintaining the game, I think we did poorly, considering we were ahead 3-1 and then ended up losing 4-3. So, in terms of prolonging and maintaining the game, I think that’s where we failed. We failed to maintain the game,
– he said.
When they started coming back into the game, we went into a defensive mode, which led to that. But I won’t take the credit away from Kasaona. Keep in mind, this is one of the teams with national team players and a very professional, very good coach. She coaches national teams, and, let me just say, she’s a very good coach. The fact that we had the game two goals up, conceded, and ended up losing the game shows that we have the potential, but it also shows that we need to work on our focus in maintaining the game,
– he noted.
Elsewhere
Another tough encounter took place at the same venue when Deutscher Turn und Sportverein (DTS) and Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) U/19 locked horns in what was poised to be a clash of the titans. The match lived up to expectations, with both teams adopting a tactical approach in the first half after the two-week break. DTS was fouled in the penalty box in the first half but failed to convert the opportunity, setting the stage for a fierce, intense battle. With a number of chances in front of goal and a number of saves, DTS finally broke through SKW’s defence to score two goals in the last 10 minutes of the second half.
Coach Mabasa Kufahakutizwi said they had a better showing and controlled most parts of the game.
SKW relied on the long ball, but we tried to play. In the first half, we struggled to win the second ball. But the moment we organised the midfield and closed it down, we dominated; it was a good show. We needed to put the game to bed very early. We were supposed to wrap up the game in the first half, get the goals, and then have more control. But we lost balance because we were trying to get that goal. Eventually it came, but we missed so much, so we really need to work on that,
– shared Kufahakutizwi.
Now it’s knockout football; it’s a different ball game altogether. Anyone can beat you any day; I think we just need to stick to what we do best: keep the ball, keep our composure, keep the ball, and punish when we have to punish. Then we see how it goes.
– he added.
