Ramblers collect points in hectic weekend

A whopping 70 games were played this past week, with all age groups hitting the field from Tuesday till late Saturday afternoon. Ramblers U/19 managed to collect seven points in a gruelling week, which had them playing three games.

They beat SKW 1-0 on Friday, won their earlier match 3-0 against Brave Soccer Club on Saturday, and drew 1-all in their last game against Windhoek Gymnasium.

For the first game against Brave Soccer Club, coach Raymond Vilander said he was not entirely satisfied with his boys’ performance, as they could have capitalised and scored more goals.

We had to rest some of the boys and give the others a chance, as we’re still planning for the last game. I’m not happy with the performance. We’ve wasted chances and have kind of undermined the team,

– he explained.

Yes, we had possession, but I think we could have done better. On the six points, well, it’s just a game that came. We still have to play catch-up to the rest of the log leaders. So far, we take it one game at a time.

As the boys prepared for the last game, one could sense a bit of fatigue creeping into his charges as they slowed down a little, even though they had carried and scored first. A lack of concentration hampered them and let Windhoek Gymnasium equalise in the dying minutes of the game.

To be honest, we played well in the first half. In the second half, fatigue set in and the boys started cramping, so we had to make changes. The goal was to get nine points for the weekend. Of course, we played three games in two days, so it is expected that the boys would get a bit tired and complacent, but we take the point and we move on,

– he said.

We should just work a little bit more on fitness and also get some of the other boys that couldn’t be here today involved as well. We rebuild, and we see next weekend.

Coach Vilander will be looking to fine-tune his boys, as they will have the rest of the week off before they play their next game.

To be honest, you can see one-on-one opportunities only twice in front of the goalkeeper, and you rush it and miss it. I mean, some of these things, if you beat the goalkeeper already, take it down and pass it into the net, but we want to become fancy. So finishing is definitely one of those, and defending set pieces is another. We’ll have to work on that,

– he ended.
