St. Paul’s U/15 collect, stumble

St. Paul’s College U/15 collected three points on Friday in their Group A match, defeating Ramblers 2-1 at Jan Möhr Football Field, but stumbled against Riverheights Football Academy, losing 4-0 on Saturday.

For their first game on Friday, St. Paul’s looked to be dominating Ramblers from the outset to the end of the match, scoring two crucial goals in the first half. Ramblers looked weary and out of the game, switching off during the match and giving away a penalty to St. Paul’s, which resulted in St. Paul’s 2-1 win in the end.

St. Paul’s College coach Uendjisuvera Katjatenja felt his boys could have done much better.

It shows that the boys have been putting in the work throughout their holiday camp; the hard work showed in our result. I am very proud of the boys; we have taken six points from two games this week, and hopefully we can conclude by taking nine points by the end of the weekend,

– he said.

It was wishful thinking when they were pitted against the mighty Riverheights at the Julinho Athletic Football Club Football Field, where they were taken to task with a 4-1 loss. This time around, coach Katjatenja had only 10 players available, which might have contributed to the margin of defeat, but he was not too disappointed in his charges’ fighting spirit.

Out of three games this week, we collected six points, and that is something to be proud of at the end of the day. We have to understand our goals and stick to them. Some unfortunate things happened today, as we had fewer players on the field. We struggled a bit, but the boys showed character, and that’s what matters.

Our campaign since the start of the season has been rocky; at the end of the day, it’s not an academy or a football club. It’s not like it prioritises football per se; it prioritises many other sports codes. Everything has to find its balance, but I would say we started to do better. We started to pick up points. The boys are starting to pick up what I am teaching them; I am proud of the team and the spirit they show. The fact that they walked off the pitch with their heads held high, well, I can’t complain, as there is not much I can say,

– he noted.

Riverheights FA coach Hafeni felt that his boys were well prepared, as they executed their game plan, which they had trained for on the training ground, and fielded two girls in the team, one of whom scored a goal.

I wanted more goals today because there is not much to really say, but it was an interesting match.

Our formation against St. Paul’s today was 4-3-3; all the transitions and positioning were about letting the river flow, which is what we saw here. The only stumbling block is that my guys are sometimes on and off, but that can really be determined by this time; hopefully, we will get it right,

– he concluded.

For his next match, he would want to fine-tune his finishing touches, shifting, goal-scoring and transition, as he wants to keep the second spot on the log before the knockout stages.
