JAFC’s U/15 stun Kasaona 3-1

…while Baller Boys hammer Dama FC 4-1

This past weekend, the MTC HopSol Youth League had 31 games played, with the U/9, U/12, U/13 and U/15 age groups taking to the fields in the capital. The U/15 matches took place at the Julinho Athletic Sport Club field on Saturday, producing some entertaining football.

The first match of the day saw Julinho Athletic Football Club (JAFC) U/15 take on Kasaona Football Academy, with the home side emerging 3-1 winners. The result served as a good preparatory fixture before the club departs for Spain to participate in the MAD Cup 2026 tournament from 18 to 25 June. MAD CUP is more than an international football tournament, as it combines sport, tourism, culture, health and education around a major sporting event.

Coach Jermyn Ripundu of JAFC said that after suffering a 2-0 defeat against SKW the previous day, his team responded well.

Most importantly, it’s about how we play; the win comes as a bonus. We also give credit to Kasaona in making it a little bit tough for us,

– he said.

Ripundu feels his side is not yet fully prepared for the upcoming trip, but they are doing everything possible to compete at their best once they arrive in Spain.

When we get there, we will know if we are really ready. We are trying to rotate the players as much as we can, so we don’t overburn the players, as we have been preparing for this since the beginning of the year,

– he said.

Overall, I am happy with the cohesion, the comeback, and the jelling with the mentality as well. I am quite pleased with them. I just want to work on the intensity when they lose the ball from attack, I want them to push a bit harder,

– he added.

Losing coach Operi Kavara said it was a good game and felt his team managed the first half well.

In the second half, we made some mistakes which cost us dearly. The boys just came back from holiday and have not played in a while, and it’s their first game coming from a whole month’s layoff,

– he said.

You could see the potential is there as they pushed throughout the game, but our errors cost us. The first goal broke my players’ morale and started panicking, which led them to lose focus and score another goal. Our goal was by luck, as it was a mistake from the goalkeeper, but overall the game was ok,

– he concluded.

Elsewhere

Dama Football Club U/15 suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Baller Boys at the same venue, losing 4-1.

The one-sided encounter saw Dama FC lose concentration after taking a 1-0 lead in the first half. Baller Boys gradually took control of the match and dictated play for the remainder of the game.

Victor Kabeke scored twice for Baller Boys, while Jerry Hototonunye and Tangeni Lenga added a goal each. Dama FC’s only goal came through Brave Narib, but his side could not regain momentum after surrendering the lead.

Coach Waka Katuamab of Dama FC said it was a familiar story for his team.

I think it’s the concentration level that is lacking in my boys. Most of the goals that went in were from our own errors, which we have to improve on, especially at training,

– said Katuamab.

We have to focus on our defence, mostly from our midfield backwards; the goalkeeper is fine. Last week, he kept us in the match against SKW, which we were supposed to lose by a higher score margin and made sure we were in the game. We have this thing of scoring first and letting the game go away,

– he ended.
